The Manhcester Housing Alliance Land Trust is a new communit

Our Mission is to develop and maintain affordable, stable, equitable and diverse housing opportunities in the Manchester area in perpetuity through a community land trust supporting shared equity housing. We believe that long-term affordable housing stabilizes our community and prevents displacement and gentrification

Community Land Trusts Provides a way for people of modest means to enter the housing market as homeowners.  Co-op members can count on stable housing expenses. The amount of the mortgage will always be the same from day one.  Resident control means that evictions will be less likely. If something is broken, co-op members have the authority to get it fixed. Stable long-term residents improve neighborhoods and make them safer. Since co-op members need to work together, they are less isolated.

Land Trust? A land trust acquires property in the community.  The lot remains in the possession of the trust and any structures on top of it are owned by the residents.  The land trust provides them with a 99 year lease. These structures can be single family homes, renovated existing multifamily buildings, or new construction. Separating the land from the structures makes the property less appealing to investors and speculators.
